The first people to conquer Mt. Manaslu were two Japanese trekkers, Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu in 1956 AD. Due to Imanishi the people of Japan now view Mt. Manaslu as their mountain.
Manaslu is situated in the Gorkha district of Nepal. Manaslu Region gained permission for trekking by the government in 1991.
